A Garden Verse

i’ve tried to tell you how i feel
but your eyes
keep falling shut

just this once
can’t you stay up with me

you once said i was insensitive
because while i slept on the ground in our tent
a storm from the lake filled you with terror.
i recall seeing flames from what we thought
was a dead campfire
glowing eerily against the tent wall.
you thought we were going to die.
now you sleep upstairs while i wrestle this demon
& i excuse you.

this devil is mine

  1. There's a world of questions in this...

  2. Yes, I agree with Braja, it leaves me wondering.

  3. me too me too, with ???? glad I am not the only one!

  4. and it makes me a feel a little sad.

  5. You are not shallow, Grandpa!

  6. OK, now like Paul Harvey, I want to hear the rest of the story.

  7. Difficult when two people are in different interactional spaces...it can be so lonely. Sensitive poem...

  8. Fun poem. My insomnia rarely overlaps with my husband's unless we wake each other up. It can be frustrating to be out of synch on sleeping.

  9. The inner demons are the worst.

It's the monster you don't see that is the most frightening.

I think Stephen King said that.

  10. How could I have missed this! The Sleeping Apostles. Luke 22:40

The fell asleep out of grief, Grandpa.

So much agony in the garden.
