Well this feels different
This morning, I finished the last piece of work in front of me that had a deadline. From 10 AM on, I have been unemployed. This is the first time since 1998 that I have not had at least one contract job still waiting on my desk to be done. I'm not worried. I have money coming in and there will be other work. It's just a strange feeling. It's also an opportunity. I can use the time to focus on doing more of my own creative work.

Wow G...sorry to hear that. Glad there will be other work. But, I am sure it is a lil unnerving to say the least.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Darsden. It always is a little unnerving, but it's part of the job. I've just been spoiled by having those long-term, renewable contracts that recently came to an end. But I've never been without work for long.
ReplyDeleteHope this lull comes as just a bit of a breather and not a stress.
ReplyDeleteHey, Marty. As busy as I've been over the past three months, I can use the breather. That's for sure.
ReplyDeleteinteresting how that gives birth to a whole new view of what is possible to write....

Maybe some new poetry? Thanks for your kind encouragement on mine, by the way.
ReplyDeleteHi, Braja. I actually got out an unfinished novel and looked at it today. (Composers have it made--they can publish unfinished symphonies. No one wants to read an unfinished novel.) But ironically, I'm most productive creatively when I have the least time because of contract work.
ReplyDeleteHi, Willow. I do plan to spend more time on new poetry. And no thanks needed, by the way. That was a great poem.
What will come of THIS, I wonder
ReplyDelete;-)
Aloha free man!
I am looking forward to hearing your symphony. :)
ReplyDeleteAloha, Cloudia. Ah, yes. Freedom. Too often, too short. But not to be wasted.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Souporsoprano. It's actually an opera.
I'm sorry to hear about the work, but I'm glad you are getting a bit of a break. I bet you won't have a lull for long.
ReplyDeleteIs this a congratulatory or an apologetic moment? I am not certain if I awoke to no desk to turn to, I'd be sad....
