The granddaughters went home today, but not before spending all day yesterday helping S fill the house with Christmas. I do have to admit that the turmoil of Christmas decorating, not to mention the displacement of so many objects that are obviously important as evidenced by their positioning the other 11 months, I'm not so much into. But the kids enjoy helping S so much I kept my bah humbugging to a minimum. It was worth it to be able to watch them, including S, having so much fun.
So tomorrow it's back to working with words.
Grandpa it's funny how New Hampshire found it's way into this Jersey girl's blood.
ReplyDeleteLoved being with my family but, I couldn't wait to get "home".
Peace - Rene
It's good to be the grandpa, isn't it?
Hear that? That is the sound of silence. I love for them to visit, but when they go back home I cherish the silence. The music, television and them all making noise at the same time. Just saying.
ReplyDeleteGlad you let them have their fun. I'm off to decorate the tree right now. Have a terrific day. :)
It is, Rene. And I totally know what you mean about New Hampshire and about how the idea of home has a way of redefining itself when we're not even looking.
ReplyDeleteGlad you enjoyed being with your family. And glad it felt good to "be back home."
Thanks, Sandee. Enjoy the decorating. And, yes, the sound of silence can be very settling.
ReplyDeleteBah humbug, no putting up any decorations for me this year. For the first time in I can't remember when we are going to be celebrating the holidays away for the most of the decorating season. Well, maybe I'll get a couple them out. I am the type who likes to put up the whole magilla. Maybe when the grandchildren come along but I have to wait for son to get married first :)
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed my family tremendously, but boy it was good to get home and my peace and quiet! I've already done my Christmas decorating by hanging one string of Christmas lights.
ReplyDeleteI can think of a few places other than here I'd like to celebrate the holiday season. I hope you enjoy it, Denise. And when the grandkids do come, I know you will enjoy it.
ReplyDeletePS. S always has to put up the whole Magilla. But reluctantly I have to say it does look nice.
Hi, Gran. Now that's the kind of decorating I could live with.
ReplyDeleteThat was a surprisingly funny post; especially the important objects line :)
ReplyDeleteOh, and my verification word is 'vabing,' which i think is so much better when said with attitude and emphasis on the second syllable:
va-BING!!!
I love the va BING! What's not to love about it.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Braja. Your comments mean a lot.
Thank you for your recent comment on my blog.
ReplyDeleteA link to the publication will be provided on the sidebar when my story is published for viewing.
Visiting relatives are wonderful to see again, and yet, nice, too, when they leave so you can get back to what you were doing.
As vulgar as Christmas commercialism gets, every year somehow the routine gets me feeling Capra-esque yuletide schmaltz.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Barbara for coming by. I'll look for the link.
ReplyDeleteHi, Vince. I know what you mean. It's hard to build up a lastung immunity.
ReplyDeleteTotally agree with the bah humbug. I love the season, but not the mess of it all. It is sad to say, but my husband is in charge of all the decorating during this season at our house--I hate the whole process. I do however, like to clean it all up!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Jackie. I don't so much like cleaning it up either, but I do like putting it away. :0)
ReplyDeleteYou're so practical.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Maria. (I think.) :0)
ReplyDeleteI love Christmas decorating. But find it a little early, as yet.
ReplyDeleteA long time ago I spent a year in Michigan, when I was very very young, and my american family put up a christmas tree the day after Thanksgiving. I'll never forget how the Christmas feeling wore off after ten days.
Hi, Julia. My biggest complaint is the Christmas carols that start at Thanksgiving. S plays them all the time. But it isn't just her. You can't go to a store without hearing them. It doesn't even get close to Christmas before I know I'm going to go completely bananas if I here one more chord of "Come they told me..."
ReplyDeleteI understand completely. Christmas carrols are hard if played too early and too long.
ReplyDeleteSomething else that has nothing to do with christmas but rather with bananas and that I find very funny is 'top bananas in the shock department'. It really has nothing to do with anything but your comment made me think of Truman Capote (Breakfast at Tiffany's).
